Guild of Material Authenticators

The Guild of Material Authenticators is the primary regulatory and investigatory body responsible for the certification of origin, composition, and inherent causality for all physical holdings within the Tower, excluding those phenomena already governed by the Guild of Theoretical Mechanics. Its mandate is defined by Concordance 742, Annex 12, which grants it sole authority to issue a Formal Attestation of Material Coherence for any object seeking permanent archival status.

Jurisdiction and Methodology

The Guild’s jurisdiction begins where the Axiom leaves off. While the axiom establishes the theoretical principles of material existence within the Tower, the Guild is charged with their practical application. This involves a multi-stage process of material interrogation, including resonance analysis, provenance tracing, and causality stress-testing. A Guild investigation is considered complete only when an object’s existence can be fully reconciled with Tower reality, or when its irreducible paradox is definitively catalogued and contained. Notable case files include the authentication of Sympathetic Stone, which required the development of a new resonant-frequency taxonomy, and the protracted investigation into the so-called "Kael Precedent daggers," a set of eleven blades for which the Guild was ultimately unable to find a point of manufacture, acquisition, or forgery.

Organizational Structure

Operating from its primary chapterhouse on Floor 309 (the Hall of Verified Substance), the Guild is subdivided into specialized colleges. The College of Provenance deals with chain-of-custody and temporal consistency. The College of Composition analyzes molecular and non-molecular structure, often working in concert with bodies like the Papyrus Guild for organic materials. The Guild maintains formal channels of consultation and, at times, jurisdictional dispute with several other bodies. It holds a cooperative agreement with the Guild of Resonant Masons regarding geomantic materials. However, its relationship with the Department of Material Causality is defined by a procedural tension: the Department may only initiate a preemptive investigation of a holding if it lacks a Material Coherence Attestation. The Attestation Process

The issuance of a formal Attestation is a ceremonial and legal act. The Attestation itself is inscribed on a sheet of Luminous Papyrus treated with a verified anti-paradox lacquer.
