It is notable for housing the sole known instance of an overgrown, non-functional automobile within the Tower’s bounds, designated as Automotive Specimen 22.J-47. Its administrative history is primarily concerned with its classification as a place of habitation rather than a storage facility, a distinction that has generated considerable documentation.

Physical Description

The chamber measures 6.4 by 4.2 meters, with a ceiling height of 3.1 meters. The entrance, as recorded by the Office of Architectural Permanence, is a reinforced wooden door, warped to a permanently ajar state of 17 centimeters. The interior walls are of unfinished stone, upon which a dense, self-sustaining mat of Hedera archivum (Tower ivy) has established itself, extending across approximately 85% of the surface area. The floor is composed of compacted earth and root matter, punctuated by patches of a resilient, bioluminescent moss (Lumen muscus) that provides a consistent, low-level illumination equivalent to three standard lumen-candles.

The central feature is Automotive Specimen 22.J-47. The vehicle, of unknown provenance and make, is subsumed by a complex, localized ecosystem. Its chassis supports a mature specimen of Ficus mechanica, whose root structure has integrated with the vehicle's frame, and its cabin is filled with a cultivated growth of Western Steppe whispering grass.

Discovery and Initial Cataloguing

The Garage was first formally catalogued by Junior Librarian Elara Voss in the 127th Cycle. Her preliminary survey, filed under Case 22.J-47, noted its "persistent state of occupation" by a single, non-communicative resident (see #Residency and Status). Scholars aligned with the School of Material Primacy argue the Garage is, in essence, a very small, roofed section of the Verdant Atrium that has incidentally incorporated an artificial object. They cite the shared presence of species like Lumen muscus, which also appears in the appendices of Ordinance 12.

Proponents of the School of Intentional Architecture contend the Garage is a true garage that has been biologically repurposed. They note the chamber’s proportions align with standard vehicular storage templates from the Unconfirmed Lower Floors and that the Ficus mechanica is not native to the Verdant Atrium, appearing only in metaphorical passages of the Fifth Concordance. This school holds that the Garage represents a "fulfilled metaphor," a physical space that has literalized a Concordantal allegory for unsustainable growth.

A tertiary, marginalized view from the Cobwebbed Conservatory suggests the entire chamber is not a garage at all, but the Occupant themself, positing that the human resident, the automobile, and the flora constitute a single, composite entity that is catalogued under a misleading architectural designation. This theory has not been formally admitted to any hearing.

Administrative Footprint

The Verdant Garage generates a consistent, if minor, flow of documentation. Biennial surveys are required by the Office of Architectural Permanence to confirm the door’s ajar measurement remains constant (it has, at 17 ±0.5 cm, for 14 consecutive surveys).
