Sealed Stack refers to the bureaucratic designation for any Stack in The Tower that has been officially closed to new entries by order of the Department of Stack Integrity, pursuant to a formal declaration of Sealed Aperture status. The term encompasses both stacks rendered inert due to physical instability or archival paradox, and those sealed for administrative reasons, such as the resolution of a protracted curatorial dispute. A Sealed Stack is not necessarily empty, but its holdings are considered frozen in a state of permanent, uncontested record.

Legal Basis and Protocols

The authority to seal a stack derives from the Tripartite Warrant, a foundational document which grants the Department of Stack Integrity custodial power over "any vertical assembly of holdings whose integrity threatens the coherence of the Central Stack principle." The practical mechanisms are detailed in the Ordinance of Cessation 73-C, which mandates specific sealing rituals, including the affixing of a leaden seal stamped with the Department's sigil and the filing of a Closure Docket with the Office of the Archivist.

In contrast, The False Stack is an active receptacle, a designated location for new entries that are systemically paradoxical or incompatible with the Central Stack. The permanence of a sealing has been repeatedly challenged. Physical and Ontological Status
