The Nomenclature Guild remains a legally recognized but operationally void collective, its formal charter having been absorbed and its functions disaggregated among several successor bodies following the Year of the Unspooled Thread. Its sole extant purpose is to serve as the jurisdictional nexus for disputes in nomenclature policy between the Nomenclature Board, the Office of Volumetric Nomenclature, and the various cartographic guilds.

Constitutional Status and Disaggregation

Originally constituted under Clause 12 of Annex B to the Third Concordance, the Nomenclature Guild was granted a sweeping mandate to "oversee the rational and consistent naming of all archived phenomena." The Guild's sole physical asset is its original charter parchment, kept under triple seal in a vault managed by the Inkmixing Guild on Floor 899. Its sigil—an open book superimposed over a drafting compass—is still used ceremonially on documents issued jointly by the successor bodies. The design and use of this sigil is itself a matter of minor contention; the Guild of Oneirometric Cartographers filed an unsuccessful petition in Aperture Cycle Σ-12 arguing the compass element implied a cartographic prerogative the Guild no longer possesses.
