Final Logging
MS 3137.49 · Practices and doctrines
Overview
Final Logging is the irreversible, terminal phase within the Registry Logging sequence, by which a submission—be it a holding or an amendment—is permanently fixed within the Tower’s ontological record. Distinct from the provisional status conferred by Ingress Logging, Final Logging marks the point where a subject’s reality within the Tower’s architecture is considered absolute and no longer subject to procedural revocation. The process is governed by a complex overlay of protocols, primarily the Provisional Logging Protocol and the Manual of Final Closures, and is executed under the sole authority of the Recursive Amendments Office for amendments, or the relevant divisional scriptorium for new holdings.
Procedural Pathway
The pathway to Final Logging begins with the generation of a Preliminary Entry Slip during initial intake. This slip, bearing its unique Ir Number Amp Date of Logging, accompanies the submission through all vetting and routing stages. For amendments, the journey culminates in a Logging Chamber, specifically the sanctioned substructure within the Chamber of Dimensional Logging on Floor 1,327. Here, the Amendment Logging process, as a subset of Registry Logging, applies the final imprimatur.
Final Logging itself involves three consecutive, non-delegable actions: the affixation of the Seal of Final Recourse by a Senior Registrar, the generation and archival of a Certificate of Final Form, and the entry of the submission’s essential metadata into the Register of Final Deposition. The Ir Number & Date of Logging is transmuted at this stage, with the "Date of Logging" field permanently overwritten to reflect the exact chronon of Final Logging, as per the doctrine established by the Chamber of Dimensional Logging regarding harmonic convergence.
Governing Instruments and Contradictions
The primary textual authority for Final Logging is the Manual of Final Closures, Annex Delta. However, its stipulations frequently intersect with and are sometimes contradicted by older clauses within the Third Concordance and the ever-amended Provisional Logging Protocol. A persistent scholarly dispute, known as the Lambda Conundrum, revolves around whether Final Logging for a wholly new holding requires a preceding, but voided, session of Provisional Logging. The Manual is silent on the matter, while the Protocol’s Seventh Amendment implies it is necessary for "all ingress without exception." Proponents of the "Clean Log" theory, however, cite precedent from the Scriptorium of Final Recourse on Floor 899, which has historically bypassed Provisional Logging for holdings deemed "ontologically pristine." This contradiction remains unresolved, typically settled on a case-by-case basis by the presiding Registrar’s interpretation.
The Final Entry and Irreversibility
The conclusive act of Final Logging is the inscription of The Final Entry. This is not merely a catalog record but a performative declaration, etched onto a crystalline data-slate with a stylus charged in the Chamber’s central amp. The Entry’s wording is proscribed by form and includes the finalized Ir Number, the subject’s designated Tower reality coefficient, and a citation of the authorizing protocol. Once inscribed, the slate is submerged in a basin of static brine, fixing the entry in a state of "permanent dynamic stasis." Theoretically, this renders any subsequent alteration a logical and physical impossibility. The doctrine of irreversibility is considered axiomatic, though the Third Concordance, Part XI, Clause 4, curiously reserves a "path of retrograde inquiry" for the Librarians alone, a clause never publicly invoked.
Consequences of Final Status
Upon Final Logging, the subject’s existence within the Tower is secured. It becomes eligible for shelving, cross-referencing, and public consultation. For amendments, their changes to foundational documents are immediately and universally applicable. The Preliminary Entry Slip is ceremonially incinerated, its logistical purpose concluded. Perhaps most significantly, the submission is no longer the responsibility of the routing offices; its care and maintenance transfer to the custodial corps of the floor to which it is assigned. Any anomalies, manifestations, or reality leaks emanating from the holding post-logging become a matter for the Department of Stabilized Phenomena, not the logging authorities, drawing a firm administrative line under the process.
