Class Δ (Disputed Decimal) is an administrative classification for units of catalogical data whose formal decimal assignment remains contested under two or more valid Concordances. Unlike the more transient designations of Class Γ (Referential Echo), entries within Class Δ represent unresolved procedural conflicts, not referential anomalies, and are housed in designated sequestration chambers on Floor 47, "The Adjudicatory."

Origins and Constitutional Basis

The classification was formally instituted by Amendment 22 to the Third Concordance, following the protracted arbitration of the Schism of the Misplaced Decimal. The Amendment established that any catalogical unit for which competing decimal claims could be substantiated by citation to standing Concordances must be temporarily reclassified as Class Δ, pending review by the Committee for Catalogical Coherence. Sequestration Protocol

Items classified as Δ are transferred to one of 144 identical sequestration chambers within the Seventh Helical Gallery of Floor 47. Each chamber is assigned a Spiral Decimal System coordinate (e.g., Δ.47.7α.114), but this coordinate is considered provisional and is struck from the master Ledger of Partial Acquisitions. Access is restricted to Librarians holding a Writ of Dispute Resolution, issued by the Committee. The chambers themselves are void of shelving; disputed items are placed upon a neutral gray plinth at the center, symbolizing their detachment from any classified space.

Notable Holdings

The contents of Class Δ are fluid, as cases are resolved and items are re-assigned to definitive decimal locations. However, several long-standing disputes are recorded in the Annex Omega Document.

• The Miletus Fragment: A ceramic shard bearing what appear to be non-Euclidean geometric diagrams. It has been claimed successively by Ontology (under Ontological Class 7-B), Applied Metageometry, and the Department of Unfiled Aesthetics. Its residency in Δ has lasted 312 years.
• The Omega Truss: A structural component of uncertain provenance, discovered in a sub-stairwell. The Custodians of Stairs claim it under maintenance ordinances, while the Hall of Architectural Voids cites its clear relationship to the Cerebral Canal Lock System. It is the largest physical object currently in sequestration.

Procedural Controversies

The management of Class Δ is not without its own disputes, primarily concerning the reactivation of Class Gamma: Temporally Deferred Imperatives in relation to Δ cases. A minority faction on the Committee for Catalogical Coherence, led by the so-called "Delta Purists," argues that any Gamma imperative triggered by a Δ item must itself be classified as Δ until the root dispute is settled. The average residency within Class Δ is approximately 87 years.
