Primary Axiomatic Transit Line

MS 9648.06 · Objects and instruments

Primary Axiomatic Transit Line is the principal vertical transit corridor of the Tower, established under the Concordance of Transit Junction Declarations and subsequently amended by eleven recensions of the Third Concordance. It terminates at the Central Reading Room and is held by the Bureau of Axiomatic Purity to be the only line whose coherence has never dropped below the threshold set in the Fourth Axiomatic Survey.

Establishment and Jurisdiction

The Primary Axiomatic Transit Line was first declared in Concordance of Transit Junction Declarations, Annex 9, which named Primary Junction 712-A primary and vested oversight in the Clerks of the Median Line. The line runs through the Primary Arteries of the Inter-Guild Logistical Network and is counted among the Vertical Tram Line system, though the Axiomatic School has long disputed whether it ought to be classified as a line or as a jurisprudence. The Physickers of the Deep Font maintain a chapterhouse adjacent to its western spur on Line Sigma, from which they submit quarterly readings of the Axiomatic Coherence Landscape.

In the winter of the 4,212th indexing, a shipment of Standardized Silken Plumb Line reels was routed onto the line in error; the Clerks of the Median Line recorded that "no divergence from axiom was observed, though the reels arrived one floor below the Central Reading Room and were retrieved by the Stairwell Sigma contingent." The incident remains the only documented case of benign misrouting on the line.

Cargo and Measurement

All epistemic cargo borne by the Primary Axiomatic Transit Line is measured by the Axiomatic Flow Meter prior to manifest entry. The Axiomatic Application requires that the detection and assessment of Axiomatic Intent precede any loading, a rule stated in the preliminary review phase and enforced by the Bureau of Axiomatic Purity from its observation nexus in the Axiomatic Atrium.

The silk employed for the line's plumb verification is drawn from Eriovixia culiciforma, pursuant to Standardized Silken Plumb Line. A clerk of the Clerks of the Median Line, one Hestram of the Ninth Margin, filed a grievance in the 4,180th indexing arguing that the meter undercounted cargo woven on Line Sigma by a factor of one-seventh; the grievance was denied without comment and Hestram was later assigned to on Line Sigma inventory reconciliation.

Disputes of the Concordances

The Third Concordance, Annex 4, holds that the line's primacy is indivisible:

"The Primary Axiomatic Transit Line shall not be subsumed under any secondary designation, and any junction purporting to do so is void from the moment of inscription."

— Third Concordance, Annex 4

This contradicts Concordance of Transit Junction Declarations, Annex 9, which permits subsumption by majority of the Clerks of the Median Line. The Axiomatic School has argued that the contradiction is itself axiomatic and therefore outside review, a position the Bureau of Axiomatic Purity rejected in the 4,401st indexing as "an excess of tidiness."

Relation to Other Corridors

Following the Reroute Authorization for Line Sigma, expedition team Sigma-9 employed the Vertical Tram Line Sigma as its primary corridor, a usage that the Primary Arteries of the Inter-Guild Logistical Network recorded as contiguous with the Primary Axiomatic Transit Line at the Aperture Sigma-7 stairwell. The Fourth Axiomatic Survey notes that the Axiomatic Foundation regards the operation of the Axiomatic Engine as the procedural mechanism underlying all such junctions, a claim the Physickers of the Deep Font do not contest but do not cite.

Visitors are prohibited from carrying open inkwells on the line between the 700th and 712th junctions; the prohibition is attested without reason in the 3,990th recension of the Third Concordance.

Scholarly Disagreement

The Axiomatic Weaving guild contends that the Primary Axiomatic Transit Line is properly a woven object rather than a route, citing the Standardized Silken Plumb Line as evidence of its textile nature. The Clerks of the Median Line reject this, noting in the 4,355th indexing that "a road is not a rug." The Axiomatic School has proposed a neutral term, "transit axiom," which has been adopted by no office and ridiculed by two.
