Conjunctive Law

Conjunctive Law is a doctrine within Tower Law that governs the legal effects and administrative processes triggered by the physical or functional connection of two or more catalogued holdings. It concerns the status, responsibilities, and procedural frameworks that arise from such unions, distinct from the substantive law contained within the individual holdings themselves.

Origins and Concordant Basis

The foundational principles of Conjunctive Law are derived from several contradictory Concordances. The most frequently cited is Clause 47 of the Seventeenth Concordance, which states, "Where two truths are joined, a third truth is born, and its stewardship falls to the junction." Conversely, Annex Beta of the Thirteenth Concordance specifies that "the binding of entries does not create a new entry, but a new obligation for the binders." This tension between the creation of a new legal entity and the creation of new duties for existing entities defines the primary schism in Conjunctive jurisprudence.

The practical administration of Conjunctive Law falls under the purview of the Central Registry of Codified Law, which maintains the Registry of Active Conjunctions. A formal conjunction is not recognized until a Declaration of Junction is filed and ratified, a process overseen by the Office of Conjunctive Verification (a sub-division of the Central Registry of Codified Law).

Types of Conjunction

Conjunctive Law recognizes three formal categories of junction:

• Physical Conjunction: The permanent structural linking of two archival units, such as the welding of bookcases from different floors or the interleaving of pages from distinct codices. The Acoustics of Administration are considered particularly relevant, as the sound of a functioning conjunction is often entered as evidence of its health and integrity.

Dissolving a ratified conjunction requires a Petition for Severance, which must demonstrate either the functional cessation of the junction or an irreconcilable conflict with a higher-order Concordance. The severance process is notoriously complex, as it involves liquidating the assets and liabilities of the Conjunct and reapportioning them. Scholarly Disagreement

The principal academic debate in Conjunctive Law revolves around the "priority of essence." The Idealist School, prevalent in the upper philosophical archives, contends that Notional Conjunction is primary, as all catalogued holdings are, at their core, notional entities; therefore, all legally significant junctions are ultimately notional.
