Western Light-Shaft is a major vertical conduit located in the Western Resonance Spire of Floor 89, distinguished by its primary function of transmitting, rather than generating, calibrated illumination. Unlike the independent Heliothermic Shaft 2001-Alpha, the Western Light-Shaft serves as a distribution network for the Aethelreds Permanent Glow and is integral to protocols for Stilled Light.

Design and Function

The shaft is a cylindrical bore, 8.7 meters in diameter, lined with polished magnesium-silicate alloy plates that reflect at a documented 97.3% efficiency (Concordance 44, Annex G, Clause 12). It ascends from the Basal Ingress Chamber on Sub-level 7 of Floor 89 to the Apex Diffuser Array at the spire's summit, a vertical distance of 1,242 meters. This light is then further processed using Stilled Light techniques to create the conditions necessary for housing light-sensitive anomalies.
