It is responsible for the cataloguing, storage, and preservation of logic-crystals, syllogistic geodes, and other forms of petrified reasoning extracted primarily from the Zone of Calcified Echoes. The Annex operates under a dual-curatorship model, requiring joint authorization from its own Head Curator and a proctor of the Vault of Calcified Procedure for any accession or de-accession of holdings.

Physical Structure and Architecture

The Annex is constructed predominantly from Calcified Ambiguity, a material whose paradoxical physical properties make it uniquely suited to containing crystallized logical forms without risk of contamination or deductive leakage. The central chamber, known as the Nave of Settled Premises, features 47 radial shelves that follow a non-Euclidean spiral pattern, each shelf indexed according to a modified Gödelian numbering system. Its operational protocols are dictated by an interlocking set of directives from the Vault of Calcified Procedure and the broader Unbuilt Wing, of which it is a logistical dependency. All transfers of material to or from the Zone of Calcified Echoes must be logged in the Annex’s Master Ledger, which itself is written on sheets of Calcified Vellum Theta to prevent retrospective alteration.

Scholarly Disputes

The origin of the Annex remains a point of contention. The predominant Cataclysmic School argues the structure is a direct architectural consequence of the Great Calcification Event, a sudden petrification of logical fields that formed both the Annex and its core collections simultaneously. This view is supported by the foundational report filed by the Cartilaginous Expedition (Annex 12-C).

The Intentionalist School, citing stylistic inconsistencies in the Nave’s shelving pattern, posits that the Annex was constructed after the Event using quarried Calcified Ambiguity, specifically to house already-extant logic-crystals. A sub-faction of this school further argues that the so-called “foundation stones” are merely decorative plinths added during the renovations of Annex III. The matter is considered unresolved, as the relevant Concordances (notably the Second and Seventh) prescribe different methods for dating calcified logic, each yielding irreconcilable results.

The Calcified Annex maintains necessary logistic channels with the Staging Annex for raw material intake and with Annex 4 for the disposal of decayed or unstable syllogistic fragments.
