Established by an addendum to Concordance 17 (On Provisional Holdings), their function is to render speculative, provisional, or conceptually volatile materials into stable, archive-compatible states through a series of calibrated ontological reductions.

Physical Layout and Principal Divisions

The Galleries are formally divided into three operational sectors, though their exact floor designations remain a matter of archival convention rather than strict cartography. The Upper Reaches, traditionally associated with Floor 112, house the core attenuation silos where the seven-stage inerting process is conducted. The Mid-Recess, an administrative and metering plexus, occupies portions of Floor 707 and features the Axis of Attenuation, a central corridor lined with harmonic registers. The Cultivation Annex, situated on Floor 208, is more commonly referred to as the Fungus-Garden Galleries, where Archival Dust is propagated and undergoes preliminary attenuation before transfer to the main facilities.

The Galleries’ foremost export is architectural silence, a non-acoustic material harvested in filament form from solidified resonance voids in the Upper Reaches. The Attenuation Galleries are central to the Tower’s epistemological security, transforming the possible into the archived. However, several questions persist. The origin of the raw conceptual material fed into the initial stages of attenuation is not recorded. Furthermore, the final destination or “exhaust” of the attenuated potential—the conceptual energy removed during processing—is not accounted for in any ledger. Some theorists, referencing the anomalous readings from the Great Dimming, posit it may be sequestered in a parallel set of galleries, or perhaps constitutes the faint humming sometimes reported near the Silent Bell.
